My 4- or 5-year-old Overhead Door garage door stopped working after recent torrential rains followed by a power outage. Precision was the only company I could get a hold of on Saturday; the tech was here promptly Monday morning. I would like to point out their recorded sales pitch while you hold on the line says, "Why pay for a whole new door when our staff of trained experts can repair your door?" Upon arrival, the tech takes a look up at the door motor and says, "Nah. This is shot. We are going to have to put an entire new system in." "Oh? Can you not repair this one?" "No idea if this model is even available. I can install a chain drive unit for $500, or and even better belt drive for $600." At that point I told the tech I would be right back, and I went inside to call Overhead Door: I explained the symptoms and the phone rep told me that worst-case scenario would be a new board for $100. Returning outside to the Precision tech, I relayed this information, and I asked him why he can't similarly replace the board (note: when I called to make the appointment with Precision, they assured me that the responding tech would have all parts on his truck to repair an Overhead Door unit). He told me, "Dunno. Can't do it. Feel free to go with them for the repair. That will be $50 for the service call." Hence your well-earned 1-star rating.

Unfortunately, often times electrical surge damage may impact the opener more extensively than just the logic board. For this reason, we often suggest a system replacement as a better value by comparison to potential costs and pitfalls which may be incurred down the road.
