Garage Door Energy Tax Credit Forms

If you bought a Garage Door in 2009 or 2010, you may qualify to get a tax credit up to $1,500.

Here’s what you need to do.

1. Read through the list below of Garage Door Manufacturers and Model #’s. Is your garage door listed?
2. If it is, print out the Signed Certificate for the manufacturer. This will let you claim the Energy Tax Credit and get 30% back on the purchase price of your garage door.

Garage Door Energy Tax Credit

In February 2009 the U.S. government passed the American Recovery Act. Contained in this act is an incentive for people to make energy efficient improvements to their home. This includes qualifying garage doors. So if you bought a garage door anytime after January 1, 2009, you may qualify for this Energy Tax Credit.

It’s always nice to get money back from Uncle Sam, so let’s see if you qualify.

• The garage door must be installed on an insulated garage.
• The garage door must be part of the customer’s principal residence.
• The garage door perimeter must have a means to control air infiltration.
• The garage door must be installed in the years 2009 or 2010.
• The garage door must be expected to remain in service for at least five years.
• The door must have have a U-factor of equal to or less than 0.30.

But how do you know which Garage Door qualifies?

There are a lot of garage door manufacturers, and even more garage door models available. It can get pretty confusing trying to figure out which door qualifies for the Energy Tax Credit.

We put together this list of popular garage door manufacturers and model numbers that qualify for the Tax Credit to keep things simple. Just find your door’s manufacturer, look for your model number, and print the Signed Certificate to use as proof.
